Just Add Heat Privacy Policy
The owners of Just Add Heat know how important your privacy is to you. Our relationship is founded on trust and we are committed to maintaining that trust. This includes treating your personal information fairly, with respect and at all times complying with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. The Act is federal legislation. If you have any questions about the statute we invite you to contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or visit his or her web site.
What is Personal Information
Personal information is any piece of information, either factual or subjective, about an identifiable individual. It includes, age, name, weight, height, medical records, ID numbers, income, opinions, evaluations, loan records, credit records and intentions (for example, to acquire goods or services, or change jobs). Personal information does not include your job title, telephone number or address, or in other words anything that might appear on your business card, or can be found through publicly available information such as the telephone book.
The 10 Principles of Privacy
1. Accountability
We take our commitment to securing your privacy very seriously. We are responsible for the personal information under our control. We are responsible for analyzing all personal information handling practices and ensuring that our policy is up-to-date and in force at all times.
2. Identifying Purposes: Why we Collect Information
Whenever we collect information about you, we will explain how we intend to use it, whether at that time or earlier. We will limit the information we collect to what we need for those purposes, and we will use it only for those purposes. We will obtain your consent if we wish to use your information for any other purpose.
We ask you for information to establish a relationship. Personal information is required for example for the purposes of identification.
3. Consent
We seek and confirm your consent to use your personal information at the time of collection or in advance. We will endeavour to employ clear, understandable language when we obtain your consent.
Consent may be expressed in writing or implied, or you may provide it electronically. Written consent may include completing and signing the documentation appurtenant to the transaction. Implied consent is where you provide personal information required to complete your transaction.
4. Limiting Collection
We restrict the collection of personal information only to that information that is necessary for the limited purposes above. We are committed to collecting personal information in a fair, open and lawful manner.
For this reason we do not indiscriminately collect personal information. We collect personal information to fulfill the above noted purposes only and for no other purpose.
5. Limiting Use, Disclosure and Retention
We will not use personal information for purposes other than for the purposes for which it was originally collected, unless we have first obtained the consent of the person from whom such information was received. We retain personal information only for the fulfillment of the purposes for which it was originally collected. Most personal information collected is kept indefinitely for the purpose of record keeping.
6. Accuracy
We are committed to maintaining accurate, complete and up-to-date personal information. If you are aware of changes to the personal information you have given us, simply inform us of the changes and we will update our records accordingly.
7. Safeguards: Protecting your Information
We have developed and implemented security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the personal information kept by us. Recent paper records concerning individuals’ personal information are stored in files kept onsite. Older records may be stored at an offsite storage facility.
Access to personal information will be authorized only to the owners of Just Add Heat and if applicable and appropriate our administrative staff, representatives, and service providers who require access in the performance of their duties, to any person granted access by one individual through the consent process, and to those who are otherwise authorized by law.
When providing information to service providers acting on our behalf, we will require such organizations or individuals to abide by our Privacy Policy. We will give them only the information necessary to perform the services for which they are engaged, and will require that they not store, analyze or use that information for purposes other than to carry out those services.
If you send us an e-mail message that includes personal information (such as your name included in the “address”), we will use that information to respond to your inquiry. Please remember that an e-mail is not necessarily secure against interception. If your communication is very sensitive, or includes information such as your home address or telephone number, you may wish to consider sending it to us by other than e-mail.
8. Openness: Keeping you Informed
We make information about our policies and practices respecting the collection and maintenance of personal information available to all interested parties. We are pleased to answer questions that you may have regarding the collection and maintenance of personal information.
9. Providing Individual Access
We will provide you access to the information we retain about you within a reasonable time, following a written request, satisfactory identification and proof of entitlement.
Upon request, we will inform you of any of your personal information in our care and control, as well as providing you with the details of such personal information. In responding to your request, we may charge you a reasonable fee.
We are also committed to ensuring that the personal information that is collected and maintained by us is correct, accurate and complete.
As well you can challenge the completeness of your personal information under our care and control. Where you can successfully demonstrate that an error in the accuracy or completeness of your personal information exists, we will amend your personal information appropriately.
