After the birth of my daughter Danielle, I thoroughly enjoyed my full year of maternity leave. She was a great baby (most of the time) and that allowed me to explore one of my passions – cooking. It was such a treat to have a daily home cooked dinner and my husband Dave and I became used to this healthy lifestyle very quickly. When it was time to return to my full time job, one of our biggest challenges was…what will we have for dinner? I would get home from the office and my one year old was not very open to “mommy can’t play with you now because she has to cook dinner”. Since our time together in the evening was very limited, I didn’t want to spend it grocery shopping, prepping, cooking, and cleaning. We found ourselves ordering in and eating out more than ever which became a concern.
I had worked in the entertainment industry for 20 years and even though I enjoyed my job, my passions were always food, cooking, and health & fitness. I would prepare multiple meals on the weekends which would make dinner time during the week fast and simple. As we quickly tired of eating chili or spaghetti four days in a row, I imagined an assembly line process with more kitchen space so I could add some variety to our dinners. Around the same time, I was introduced to a kitchen assembly facility in the U.S. and the wheels started turning. This was the beginning of the evolution of Just Add Heat!
When it comes to dinner time, I think I want what most people want - the means to provide my family with healthy, affordable meals, free of excess fat, sugar, salt, and preservatives. A family sitting down for a home cooked meal together is a precious commodity in this era of extended work days, long commutes, and after school activities. Something as simple as dinner at the table with your family is guaranteed to enhance your quality of life.
